  1. I have lots of clinic and hospital appointments we have no car so I use a lot ofTaxis in one week had 7 appointments I get £405 in pip it cost £205 in 1 week then I had clinic twice a week if I got vouchers this will not pay for taxis what will I do then I also help to pay gas and electricity as I have a lot of illnesses I am always cold the other winter our gas was just over £500 pounds this winter we will have to cut back on food and heat.

    • Just another way for the government to cut costs and rather taking it from the rich or other means they take from the poor and vulnerable people who can’t work for a reason… It’s not fair it’s not just … But they don’t care about us they just care about making themselves richer with the money they know they will be saving from this scheme… The days of the UK government helping it’s people is over … And they will say anything to prove there point but we all know what they are doing. We may be disabled but we are not stupid. How would MPs who run this country like it if we cut there income or there daily 250 pounds just for clocking in ? Or the extra house they get ? Just got being an MP or the cheap restaurant they get food next to nothing while people get charged a fortune for food. The rich stay rich and the poor stay poor .. they never mix … They wouldn’t over help even if they could .. this is just another way they are showing us that we are nothing to them .. we give with one hand and take with the other … The government should be ashamed of itself for this stupid cruel behaviour and ideas to attack the disabled people of our country.

      • Why is the Government always target disabled people what about people that have complex conditions they just want to Control us. I worked most of my life am only
In a wheelchair because of multiple surgeries plus one I didn’t consent to but it left me distressed and ended up losing my leg above the knee plus multiple surgeries on my stump and the surgeon who did the surgery only got a slap on the wrist I did see a solicitor but didn’t get much out of that I was told after them changing me to different hospital they said I should’ve got a second opinion, but I was too distressed knowing that I’ve lost my leg and now the Government want to give us vouchers it’s a joke I didn’t even vote for Labour

    • I am worried sick about this. I am on the highest level of PIP daily living and mobility. I have a degenerative condition that is definitely getting worse as time goes by. I live alone and there are certain tasks I am unable to do, such as gardening and ironing. I also have a lady come in twice a week to clean my house. None of the people who I pay for their services will accept vouchers. As a vulnerable person I prefer to remain with the people that I now know and trust, but they are normal working people with bills to pay and a voucher just won’t cut it for them. I understand there are some who play the system and it appears rather than clamping down on them, the rest of us are to be punished. That’s a lazy government attacking the most vulnerable disabled people who many don’t have the capability to fight back. I am prepared to go to any medical consultation deemed necessary and I welcome them to view all my medical records where they will clearly see, I am receiving this benefit purely out of need and not greed.

      • I agree with you. I too am very worried as I’m in constant pain daily and have a couple of friends who care for me that I pay them to do this for me, they won’t take vouchers. I also have a motability car and use some of my care side for the petrol I use when going to appointments etc.

Just because we are ill or have disabilities we shouldn’t be dealt like second class citizens. Why is it that we are always the ones to be poorly dealt with. It’s not like we ask to be sick.

    • Exactly. I rely on taxis alot plus top up gas and electricity which has to be paid in cash. There are lots of reasons vouchers wouldn’t help us eg sending family to get your shopping, paying someone to clean when you can’t etc I am medically retired because I can’t go to work. I worked 38years so it’s not like I didn’t want to work and live on benefits. It’s ridiculous and singling out sick or disabled people and humiliating US

    • Hello Anne.
Personally, vouchers would not work for me, for similar reasons to yours. I feel we are being dictated on what to use vouchers for. I do online shopping, not just for food, and vouchers would be of no use to me. What a worry for us who depend on the finance for, gas electricity, water, basically all the household bills which is required to help with our disability needs. I vote NO VOUCHERS.

    • This idea is absolutely ludicrous!! How on earth can you be independent when all you get is vouchers ? It’s wrong to make disabled people feel isolated and excluded from everyone else !! It’s not on

      Reply
      • Makes the disabled a second class citizen yet again. I bet they don’t give immigrants vouches in my opinion thats all they should get. Before I became disabled I paid higher rate tax for over 30 years and now to be told after paying into the system I am not trust worthy enough to put the small amount of money received to what I feel it needs going on so I can live independently and do what I want wen I want and not rely on others to do what I once saw as a simple job cut veg wash my hair go somewhere on the spare of the moment and not have to book someone to come with me . I am sure care companies won’t want a voucher system as if it works like the nursery ones it doesn’t cover the cost of the hours the voucher says.

dresser to call cut my hair and another person to cut my nails I also have laundry service and meal service also recently got a assistants dog I have a dog walker dog food and vet checks and this is all before what good are vouchers for these services, vouchers for private medical treatment on top of bills would be a better benefit

    • I have payed my taxes all my working life, unfortunately I am disabled now, due to an assault by one of my patients at work… I loved my job but now I can’t even stand or walk… I have never been beholden to anyone, I ran my own carpet business at the age of 19years with a staff of 15…I lost it in the late 90s, I went back to nursing and was badly assaulted at work in 2007.. These days I can’t leave my bed as my pain is so bad…Nobody chose’s to be disabled but the government are making us feel we are begging for the money we have already paid in over the years…The people you should be looking at saving money from is the cowardly scroungers illegal immigrants, who if the press is to be believed your throwing money at them… Keir Starmer what have these illegal immigrants ever done for our country other than make it dangerous and to look like a third world… You in government need to open your eyes and see what is really happening and not hid away taking all our rights… My PIP is the only benefit I receive, so if that is taken and put into vouches, I will have no money for my cleaner, dog walker, food, gas electric and other living costs…There is nothing I need vouchers for as over the years I have bought everything I need ,to try and be more comfortable,,,

  2. What about the disabled people who can’t work how will they benefit from vouchers as they need to live on some money to survive .this is redicolous having vouchers

    Reply
    • This is extremely alarming. Firstly because as a PIP claimant, I was never asked my opinion about the voucher scheme. I then learnt that the government were pushing ahead with their hair brain scheme – it just shows how out of touch the government are. If my PIP cash amount was stopped I would not survive. As it is, I do not receive ANY help paying my mortgage so a large chunk of my income has to pay that. Last month I combined my incoming and deducted my outgoing and I was left with £69.87 to last me the month, to feed and clothe myself. I already attend a food bank weekly and some times I haven’t been able to afford the £6 required. If my benefit was stopped, that doesn’t mean I could go job hunting, it’s just not possible due to my health conditions.

    • What happens if I go shopping and my bill is £97 but I only have a voucher for £100 where does the change go? And also people will know the person is on PIP because they are standing behind while paying the bill with vouchers Disability is not visible to all . This will make the disabled person feel so small they will not go shopping and end not eating or washing I am not disabled just a person who cares

    • I kkow what you mean. I have paid in 38 years of Ni payments.i now have end stage inflammatory arthritis there no treatment and I am in pain all the time. My hands and fingers are the worst and I got a letter from my Rheumatologist to support my PIP claim. I am unable to work not only because I literally am unable to use my hands, but because of the medication I have to use due to being unable to take most painkillers, it knocks me out at night so that the pain in my hands doesn’t keep waking me. I can’t grip anything, can’t make a fist my fingers don’t bend anymore and I only have to knock them very slightly, and the pain is at least 20 fold to what normal people might feel. I have stickler syndrome which affects my sight and hearing as well as the joint problems, and the potential for mitral valve prolapse. Because sticklers isn’t seen as a disability, despite it’s progressive nature, I can’t claim any other disability benefit, it’d the only little bit of cash I do have. That allows me to get my feet done, as I’m a type 2 diabetic, they need taking care of. It helps to be able to help hubby a little with some bits of shopping or bills etc as we are living on just his wage and have a 15 year old dyspraxic son which bring a whole new set of struggles sometimes

They taking control away from disabled people treating like sheep… they put all disabled people in to one category not all disabled people are the same we all have different needs. And vouchers are the worse thing they can give disabled people, we don’t all want or need the same stuff we have to use pip towards bills food as ect. It’s dismantle to disabled people you be able to thing and make choices of where their pip will help them. Vouchers should not be aloud. Their o about catalogue to use with vouchers whst about people that can’t read write or see or have some sort of brain disorder and understanding. It’s not going to help them. Disabled should have a right not treated as worthless human beings..

They need to come and spend a day with me then they will see how i so say manage.

  5. Why do you feel that a voucher for PIP is better? What are you gaining from this? We , who claim PIP, use the money for food, gas, electricity, tv licence, council tax. As a customer with hidden disability, is the voucher going towards all the above, what about people with a mortgage, money gets paid by the customer. I completely disagree regarding a voucher.

I had to buy my own equipment then was told I didn’t need full PIP as already had equipment🤷‍♀️ no thought to my having to pay out for upkeep of equipment as well as pay off loan I took out to pay . I also pay care call and again I think a govt run Scheme should cover those costs. I pay someone to. clean house etc but determined to do as much as I-can on own so limit number of bookings. I’d imagine if I was paying them in vouchers they’d want a regular arrangement.

I say to them try having ME/CFS it’s not nice. I’m going to try again but I’m going to get everything I need from my doctors proof I’m not well and how it effects me. I heard that a few whisle blowers from DWP said pip form is designed to make people fail. I hope everyone who is real and needs pip gets it. Female who helps is used to it and makes me feel comfortable. Also have mobility issues so need help when out. She does shopping cleaning etc but again i dont want a stranger doing this for me.how can i give her vouchers when they are no good to her.if they stop my cash payment i will not get the care by someone i trust, so wont help me in my situation. They always target the vulnerable, people who can’t fight back!

First the drivers including those who are disabled and need their cars, being charged to use their cars with the ULEZ charge.
Then the ridiculous vouchers for disabled people, which is a damn insult.
Finally the winter fuel allowance being taken away from those who need it.

I am more than angry with these actions. I hope these politicians become dependent on these benefits and find out what it’s like to cope with being disabled and then treated like a second class citizen!

What has this country come too be – discriminating vulnerable & elderly people- vouchers are a ridiculous decision – money is needed to pay all the people we have to ask for help ie getting the shopping – gardening -asking & paying neighbours to put out the rubbish & bins – help with lifting & moving objects – paying friends fuel costs when taking us to appointments hospital doctors etc.i purchase mobility aids from my local mobility shop – & other stores – what if they dont take the vouchers .
I’ve had to move house due to my disability & it has cost me hundreds of pounds for the removal- new items to fit into the fresh property –
I’m a retired DWP civil servant & if I had had too carry out this new appalling change i would have been very embarrassed as I was in my job to help.people & give who was entitled to receive appropriate benefits & allowances

  19. Vouchers will not cover the amount I need to make up my rent. They won’t cover heating, food etc. we have an older fridge in which my jabs need to be kept. How do we replace white goods or repairs? We rarely go out, because of costs, so we pay for netflix and watch films. Telly licences are exactly cheap either. Will vouchers cover this? I’m no longer able drive, so I use either the ambulance service or taxis for hospital. Surely we are entitled to some form of life. I’m 60 next year and I do very little outside these 4 walls, soon I won’t be doing anything inside them either.

May as well stick my blue badge on my forehead and a bell round my neck, a white stick and take the little bit of personal independence and control I have left from me, to shop where and when I shop and what I want to buy. We are in the same boat as illegal immigrants shopping vouchers only they get their gas electric water mobile council tax paid for, mine have been direct debit for over 30 years so that will be harder to do for me because all the banks are closing down and can you use vouchers for bills ?

  22. Currently disabled people are given freedom of choice to obtain any items or help they need in order to manage their individual conditions. some conditions cannot be helped by further therapies or physio, they’ve already been there and been discharged because there isn’t anymore they can do to help them. . Genuine disabled will already have been provided by their doctors or social services the equipment they need and therefore vouchers will no longer help.
These people need money, not vouchers, to pay for taxes, home helps, gardeners, special things they need not provided by anyone for example, incontinence products, personal items that main stream items are no longer adequate. They may need special foods and currently have freedom of choice but vouchers will limit this to certain areas or places.
people do not choose to be ill, to have to suffer, give up paid work because they are no longer seen fit to do the job. they require assistance in the fact that their choices can be the one thing they control and the proposed bill will remove that from them. The ability to live as normal a life they can which can be costly. What is a simple task or outing to a normal able bodied person can be a nightmare and cost more to a disabled person but why should the freedom of choice, the freedom to be in control of the last things they can be removed ?

I ask, why aren’t they giving vouchers to those on other benefits for food for clothing ?
The government cannot circle out those in receipt of PIP when the money is being squandered by those on other benefits then they visit food banks because they chose to spend that money differently. It’s discrimination.
The majority of genuine people on PIP use the money for it’s purpose and by taking the income away from them will cause great distress and may even have a very very sad ending

How vouchers is going to help myself and my husband we have no other help because of my illnesses. I suffer severity from the cold. Haven’t have a heating on our payment helped pay for that, I cannot see how vouchers are going to help when we need to live. We need to eat and we need to have heating please please stop this stupidity constantly having a go at the disabled is not going to put the finances back right isn’t it about time? You started having a go at the rich instead of having a go at the poor all the time? I’ve a lot of us have worked before we became ill. We didn’t ask to become ill. We didn’t ask to not work. This is a very cruel and uncalled for people on PIP. Do not Defraud the government. we have to go through a lot to even get a pip in the first place. A lot of people take it to tribunal before they are actually warded the payment. 31. I’m against the idea of vouchers replacing cash, it doesn’t suit everyone.
There’s a lot of genuine people who deserve to be on PIP and aren’t getting it because too many people are abusing the system, PIP IS NOT for paying your rent or other utilities, THESE AREN’T DISABILITIES…… And for the people that have left these comments here stating that’s what they use the PIP for is beyond me and shouldn’t be getting it!
WHEN and IF our comments actually mean anything then I’m sure yous lot that pay rents and utilities with your PIP money will be the 1st in line to be booted off the system! And rightly so!!!!!
Like myself I have a lot of disabilities that aren’t getting any better, I attend a lot of appointments and therapy weekly and use taxis and none of these are cheap! Vouchers aren’t going to cover this, I hope it’s a long debate, the government is going to do what they want regardless of what we think!
Labour didn’t start this THE CONSERVATIVES DID! And it can’t be dropped at the drop of a hat without debate….The people will have no rights soon under any government if we don’t start sticking up for ourselves and come together and make the debate…… Years ago everyone stood up against nonsense, not now…. people just accept it without a fight! Then moan about it for the rest of their days….
Where’s the people’s leadership???? Build it!!!! PROTEST before we can’t…… WE ARE!
There’s a lot of genuine people who need PIP and relay on it and I don’t mean for rents, utilities that’s a farce…. There is also double the amount of people abusing the system and they are the one’s they need to find and cast out, so blame those people for putting genuine PIP applicants at risk.

My neighbours sometimes would take me to appointments but I still have to give them money for petrol. My neighbours do shopping for me and I pay them. I cannot pay them with vouchers. I cannot pay for a taxi with vouchers. There are many other services that it is not feasible to pay by vouchers. I think it is appalling that once again it is the vulnerable in our society that suffers. It will cause a lot of unnecessary distress and hardship if the Labour government approves the voucher system. I really believed that they would make a difference and I am hoping and praying that a changeover from cash to vouchers does not take place. We appreciate that the country needs rebuilding and money has to come from somewhere but please, please target other sources and leave the vulnerable alone.

It covers the extortionate heating bill due to keeping my grandson, and myself warm and Electric! It keeps us in food because it costs more to try and eat healthy. I have all the equipment we need already. It puts fuel in our mobility car so I am not house bound 24-7.
Not one of those who thought of this ridiculous scheme would put up with being paid in vouchers so why are they punishing disabled people like us and expecting us to put up with the withdrawal of payment in cash!
With cash we have choice to obtain the things we need at the cheaper prices even when the disability items are over priced but with vouchers the prices will be raised even more due to limited choice and again we will be punished by lack of choice, price hikes and inability to obtain what we actually need.
It won’t reduce fraud, I will not improve the lives of disabled people it will leave us in poverty and stigma and dispare!
This proposed scheme is cruel, vindictive and will increase suicides amongst disabled people exponentialy but that seems to be the desired result by those who dreamt Ithis scheme up as it will most definitely reduce the amount of people claiming PIP payments because they will have ended their already limited lives! We are not acceptable collateral losses! We are human beings with the ability to know what we individually need and what is best for us and our families.

This government or the tories have absolutely NO compassion or regard for the needs of disabled people! shame on them! They are totally despicable and clueless!

Only fraud going on here is the government it’s self. Telling the people they will do lots of things, then when they get in power they change everything and any thing they have said. Vouchers would do the government well. Pay them on vouchers see how they get on, prior to giving to PIP. After all there’s less of them and it would do them well. Practice what you preach,!!!!!

I use my pip for a cleaner/laundry/garden/taxis/meals-on-wheels. These are independent small local companies, they rely on people like myself to survive too. I doubt very much that they will be interested in accepting government vouchers.
Honestly, how much work is going to be involved in submitting, waiting weeks to be paid and accounting at DWP. This is just the first step of the dental problems again, small traders just won’t accept waiting weeks to be paid and they will start to be private too.

If the labour party replace PIP with vouchers I simply won’t be able to live a normal(ISH) life, I will have to go into an old people’s home.
The labour party had better make sure that there is plenty availability for those of us who will simply not be able to live independent lives.
I honestly thought that PIP was supposed to do this, but make things more difficult, and worrying, for us

Ask yourself, which costs more? Trying very very hard to look after yourself (and trust me, this isn’t easy) or to pay for my accommodation in a home that after 40+ years of working really hard I don’t deserve or want to be.

What about taking that money away from the government as another example and as mentioned in other comments what about the illegal immigrants that the government has no w decided to let in to take away said payments.

  62. Labour used to be the working man’s party. Now all they are interested in, like the rest of the government parties is what’s in it for me. I am severely disabled and housebound if I get to my bins to put the rubbish out without getting out of breath or suffering severe pain then I would be lucky. I have to have my prescription delivered and do my shopping online and have it delivered. I have a plethora of illnesses and would suffer greatly if they changed from cash to vouchers. Its about time they stopped giving themselves big pay rises and bonuses. Think of the savings they would make.

  64. I am a single father with the eight year old child who receives 390 pounds off universal Credit to live on which half of it goes on bills replacing PIP payments for vouchers is ridiculous I strongly believe that me and my son will stay hungry this winter

  65. Vouchers are no good to me, I live on a mountain with sheep roaming free.
There are no shops and the buses run every hour until 5.30pm so I depend on the Internet to do my shopping, pay my bills etc. I don’t drive so rely on friends, taxis or buses to take me to the doctors, hospital appointments etc.
I’ve quite a few illnesses, we’re I take upto 30 tablets a day as well as inhalers. I’ve EMPHYSEMA and call it my death sentence as there is no cure.
I can’t paid my friends, buses, taxis, household bills etc by Vouchers. Why can’t the government leave disabled people alone and go after the rich people that are defrauding our benefit system.
Why can’t they go after the people that don’t pay their taxes when they have millions in the bank like Katie Price, Bill Roach etc.
PLEASE LEAVE THE DISABLED PEOPLE ALONE.

  66. Well I really thought Labour would be for the people but no just like the Conservatives they only care for themselves and the wealthy I’m 79yrs so is my husband worked all our lives to have you take away our heating allowance now to give us stupid vouchers instead of our disability allowance and like everyone else has said vouchers will be useless obviously the government want the disabled and elderly to give up. Thank you Labour I don’t any government can be as bad as you

  67. It’s always the poor people that suffer, never the rich, takes over a year for a claim to go through, I’m not sure how I would benefit from vouchers, I have arthritis creeping around my body at 52, what can vouchers do? Pay for painkillers? What can vouchers do for depression, pay for medication, I get them free anyway, paid for therapy, it doesn’t help long term, I’ve had depression on and off all my life, I’ll pay with vouchers to get rid of it? I wish, it’s a bad idea altogether!😡

  68. If this happens, there is only one way forward for me. I can’t have my family have me be a burden with cash as well as everything else. I’m dead and gone as soon as this is put into place.

  69. All vouchers will do is push prices up, and push choice out. What people on disability here and now have is choice. The only way vouchers could be used is like the covid eat out scheme… accept and claim back. That could take 90+ days. This meaning smaller companies cannot run on this so bigger companies benefit again and with less competition available charge whatever they like and the disabled struggling with supply and demand for the privilege of higher pricing.
Combat the issues needed. Better health support, and resources for the disabled and their carers

  72. Okay so go to vouchers for shopping… BUT how is anyone meant to pay gas, electric, water, rent/arrears, council tax, tv licence, taxi/bus travel, HP purchases, pet food, existing loans, court fines ect ect… the list for keeping to cash payments are endless

  73. Changing PIP from cash ti vouchers is no good for me. How would I pay my gardener or window cleaner, I’m sure they wouldn’t accept vouchers and if they weren’t kept neat and tidy I know what the council would do and it would probably mean I would lose my home which is adapted for me.

  74. So now I have to admit to people working that I suffer everyday and hand over vouchers. It’s embarrassing I’m even in this situation I feel this is a cruel thing todo. I use taxies sometimes if I’m in extra pain and the money from pip would help me alot. That is where my need is, I need cash to get around on my worse days.

  75. Absolutely degrading and disgraceful to all vulnerable and disabled people – what use are vouchers for our gas electric tv license water mortgage and shopping – already have to buy dressings, catheter products and derma creams because the gp will not prescribe them any longer or depleted stocks in the services delivering urine bags etc – this country is a joke – the elderly and disabled are being targeted – Why Labour? Why are you doing this to this sector of human beings.
The vulnerable should not have to suffer or worry about money or using vouchers – it’s too stressful. Coping with illness and the unpredictability of that is enough to worry about without all this as well

  76. The Govt is willing to spend money on printing these vouchers sending them out to each PIP claimants individually but NOT willing to pay out money directly to vulnerable people …strange very strange !!!
And then the poorly whose mental state is not even ready will have new stress to go find out where this voucher be accepted!! Lots of people live alone they find it difficult to cope on day to day basis and to make them suffer like this !!!

  77. PIP is called “Personal Independence Payment” as it is meant to be used for the ill or disabled person to become more independent. There are so many illnesses and disabilities, I imagine that people claiming PIP use their payment for a huge variety of items and services, depending on their individual needs.

Issuing vouchers instead, would be so restrictive. In fact, it would be the opposite of independence! If the government decides to change it to a voucher scheme, maybe they should rename it “Personal Restrictive Vouchers” instead.

It was such an awful idea by the Tory government in the first place. I can’t believe that Labour are even considering implementing it. It seems like, it doesn’t make a difference who’s in government. They are still picking on the most vulnerable in society – the elderly, ill and disabled. Truly shocking.
